James F. LaFay

<p>James F. LaFay, 73, of New Castle, passed away the evening of January 9, 2017 at Kindred Hospital. Born on September 8, 1943 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lorraine LaFay. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 48 wonderful years, the former Elaine Mastrangelo, whom he married on November 16, 1968. </p><p><br></p><p>James had worked for Universal Rundle and later retired from the maintenance department for Liberty Mutual Insurance. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967 where he was stationed in Germany. James was a member of St. Vitus Church. He loved watching Pittsburgh sports teams, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandson. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his wife, James is survived by his daughter, Dana LaFay of Akron, OH; brothers, John LaFay and wife Ellen of Hudson Falls, NY and Michael LaFay and wife Bev of Portage, IN; sister, Jeanne Reed of Hudson Falls, NY; brother-in-law, Anthony Mastrangelo and wife Connie of New Castle; sister-in-law, Carol Mastrangelo of New Castle; and grandson, Aidan Hanson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded him in death by his brother, Joseph LaFay; niece, Lorrie Reed; brothers-in-law, Bud Reed and George Mastrangelo; and sister-in-law, Delores Mastrangelo. </p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave DeCarbo’s Friday at 9:15am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vitus Church at 10:00am, officiated by Father Nicholas Mastrangelo. </p><p><br></p><p>Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the cemetery.</p>
