Robert Boyer

Robert D. “Bob” Boyer, 91, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Chambersburg, Hospital. Born May 1, 1925 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Elsie Verbena Stabley Boyer. Bob was a 1943 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he served honorably in World War II. Bob was in the 69th Infantry Division, was sent to England and shifted to the 83rd Infantry Division. Bob saw action as a rifleman in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded in battle and awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Bronze Star Medal. Following his service, Bob attended Drexel University where he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. He was employed at Landis Tool Co. as an engineer until his retirement in 1983 after 35 years of service. Bob served as a Sunday school superintendent and choir director at 2nd Lutheran Church for 30 years then served as choir director for over ten years at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 46, the VFW Post 1599, and the DAV Post 78. Bob enjoyed woodworking, collecting coins, reading and music. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Lucas Boyer, whom he married on June 26, 1954; three children, Ruth M. Eckert (Douglas) of Red Lion, PA, Robert D. Boyer, Jr. (Angela) of Indianapolis, IN, and Paul L. Boyer (Linda) of Greencastle, PA; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222. Rev. Eloise M. Shanley will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
