Kathryn DeShong

Kathryn G. DeShong age 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Thursday, January 5, 2017. Born October 29, 1939, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Louise Knepper Helman, Sr. Mrs. DeShong dedicated over 40 years, working at Knouse Foods, retiring in 2004. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Surviving are five children, Donald W. Zeek of Chambersburg, PA; David W. Zeek of Chambersburg, PA; Michael A. Zeek of Chambersburg, PA; Donna Helman (husband Kevin) of Fayetteville, PA; and Dennis L. Zeek of Chambersburg, PA, 13 grandchildren, 16 great – grandchildren, and two siblings, Lloyd Helman, Jr. (wife Phyllis) of Chambersburg, PA and Virginia Flora of Shippensburg, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. DeShong on December 3, 2015, daughter – in – law, LouAnn Zeek; and three siblings, Michael Helman, Sr.; Charles Helman, Sr.; and Harry Helman, Sr. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way Lancaster, PA 17603 or to the American Cancer Society, 924 N Colonial Ave. York, PA 17403.
