Malcolm Specht

It is with profound sadness that the children of Malcolm Richard “Dick” Specht announce his passing on December 14, 2016 at the Elizabeth House Hospice in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Malcolm and his wife, Jeanne Specht, lived for many years in West Irondequoit and Webster, NY. Malcolm relocated to Brevard, NC, in May, 2016 to be closer to his children. Malcolm received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his graduate degree from Cornell University. Malcolm worked as a research physicist at Eastman Kodak for more than 30 years and was instrumental in the development of many imaging technologies. He also served in the U.S. Navy in both active duty and reserve service and retired with the rank of Captain. Malcolm was active in his church community and served on the Parish Council. He also participated in many volunteer activities including that of Boy Scout Troop Master for several years. With his wife Jeanne, Malcolm volunteered many hours to the St. Andrews Food Pantry in Rochester, NY. Happily married for more than 50 years, Malcolm is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanne. He is survived by his children Alison Specht Trenga (Kevin Trenga), Heidi Specht Lamb (John Lamb), Gretchen Specht Herbert (Roger Herbert), and Jonathan Specht; brother E. Michael Specht, sisters Elizabeth Specht Rossiter and Eugenie Specht Sarro; five grandchildren Ryder, Jessie, Kelly, Matthew and Abigail and one great-granddaughter, Natalie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elizabeth House Hospice in Flat Rock, NC or the charity SMILE TRAIN. A memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m. January 16, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church in Brevard. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans of Transylvania County.
