Norma Sealey Jamaica, New York Obituary

Norma Sealey

Norma Vanessa Sealey was born to John and Agnes Sealey on the isle of Trinidad on September 19, 1938. She was born in the Chaguanas region, one of ten children. After her education she began her work life. One of her early jobs was at a popcorn factory; perhaps it was this that contributed to her family's love of popcorn to this day. After that, her chief occupation was taking care of her family. She devoted herself and her energies to raising Curtis, Cheryl and Eddie. Her love of children continued when she migrated to Puerto Rico in the early seventies, where she worked taking care of children; and mastered the challenge of learning Spanish. Yes she acquired the language, and spoke it. Her adventure continued when she moved to New York in the late seventies. She continued taking care of children, before avenues opened for her in a new direction. From that point on she worked at Chase Bank for several years, and at companies in the fashion industry such as Donna Karan among others. In her home life, she loved her plants and gardening. She could be found in scorching sun or frigid winds working on her garden. She had a green thumb and loved life. She loved to cook and bake and make sure others were well fed. She had an abiding love for curried duck and many other traditional Trinidadian dishes which she shared generously with neighborhood friends. Even the mail carrier and sanitation workers knew they could be richly rewarded by her tasty treats. Of course this encouraged them to make sure the Sealeys were taken care of. These culinary talents she possessed flowed in her church. Anyone who knew Mother Norma knew that she had a full repertoire of goodies at church functions. She was a devoted member of New Life Tabernacle of Faith, where she received awards for Mother of the Year and Evangelism. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and was firm in her convictions. This was evident in her fervent prayers and her words expressing confidence in her Savior. She left to join him on Tuesday December 20, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Curtis, Cheryl and Eddie , her sisters Sylvia, Maureen, and Marva, her brothers Edwin and Vance, her grandchildren Marlon, Tameka, Kareem, Cherrone, Fatima, Maya, Elijah, India, Anthony, Stefon, Nyiesha, Malik, Mia and eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson chase. Norma will be missed by family, and all those who had the pleasure of sharing in a life that was poured out in great measure. God Bless. She in safely home in the arms of our lord Jesus.
