Jean A. Brace-Moden of Liberty St., Bliss passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw, NY at the age of 83. She was born January 8, 1933 in Warsaw, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Genevieve (Petherick) Hollister Sr. She was the eldest of six children. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1950. She also completed a School of Nursing nursing program in 1953. Jean worked the majority of her career as a registered nurse at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She worked in various capacities at WCCH: labor and delivery, operating room, emergency room and central supply. She also worked briefly as the school nurse for Letchworth Central Schools. Jean possessed the qualities essential for nursing such as the ability to make quick decisions, being an attentive listener, showing empathy and compassion for all in her care. Nursing was her passion. She often assisted friends, neighbors and family members with medical questions and concerns during non-working hours. Jean had many and various hobbies throughout the years like knitting, ceramics, and vegetable and flower gardening. In addition to gardening, Jean enjoyed tending to her lawn. She could often be seen maneuvering various pieces of lawn equipment in her yard. She and family members took various road and day trips over the years. Local destinations included the Enchanted Forest in the Adirondacks, mid-state wineries, the locks in the Erie Canal, Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls and theater productions in Toronta, Canada. Out of state destinations included ocean fronts in Ft. Meyers, Florida and Reeds Beach in New Jersey and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. She is survived by her children: Cynthia (Dale Emmert) Brace of Alamogordo, NM, Mark (Tammy) Brace and Michael Brace both of Bliss; seven grandchildren: Korrie and Cameron of Alomogordo, NM and Jenna, Kendra, Hunter, Taylor and Morgan of Bliss; two great-grandchildren: Haley and Andrew of Alamogordo, NM; her siblings: Thomas (Diane) Hollister of Warsaw, Frank (Linda) Hollister of Warsaw, Loletta (Phil Moselle) Hollister of Hamburg; also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Martin Brace who passed away in 1994 and Sheldon Moden who passed away in 2007; her siblings: Lloyd "Bub" Hollister Jr. and Patricia Turkot. There will be no calling hours. A time of remembrance and sharing will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2 PM at Michael Brace's residence on Hillside Road in Bliss, NY.
