Douglas John Ross, 89, of Union, passed away peacefully at Togus in Augusta on December 7, 2016. He was born on January 26, 1927 in Norwich, Connecticut to Montell Ross and Mildred (Jones) Ross. He was born in Norwich, Connecticut , moved to Maine as a youngster and attended local schools. He entered the Navy and served in World War II.
After the service he became a master plumber. He worked for Jameson Plumbing and Heating for many years. He also was part owner of Gordon’s Market in Union.
Doug’s many passions included fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling and playing cards.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Spear) Ross, brothers George Ross, Montell Ross and Frederick Ross.
Besides his wife Arlene Burns. Ross, of Union, survivors include his daughter, Rita Pooley and husband Chester of Detroit, ME; step-daughters: Brenda Overlock and husband Roger of Benton, ME, Virginia Flood and husband Lee of Belfast, ME; granddaughter, Donna Nichols of Wilton, ME; grandsons, Aaron Pooley and wife Stefie of Fairfield, ME and Matthew Elwell and wife Ashley of Union, ME; 8 Great grandchildren; sister, Eunice Flagg of Jefferson, ME; brother, Donald Ross and wife Pat of Warren, ME; and many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 12-1 PM at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine. A celebration of life will follow at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, 2016 also at the Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. Interment will be at the Shuman Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in John’s name to the VA Hospice Facility, 810 Eastern Avenue, Augusta, Maine 04330
