Walter McDougall

Millinocket – Walter J. McDougall, Sr., 80, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at a Bangor hospital. He was born October 29, 1936 in Millinocket, the son of Harold J. and Josephine M. (Willette) McDougall, Sr. Walter grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of St. Martin of Tours High School, class of 1954. He was a papermaker at Great Northern Paper Company for over 41 years, retiring in 1994. Walter enjoyed working in his garden, and enjoyed sharing tomatoes that he grew with friends and neighbors. For many years, Walter and his wife, Betty, enjoyed motorcycling on their Goldwing all over the state of Maine, from Greenville to the coast. He especially enjoyed visiting his grandchildren, and always looked forward to visiting them. Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty A. (Hall) McDougall of Millinocket; two sons, Aaron James McDougall of Millinocket, and Walter Joseph McDougall, Jr. and his wife Jane of Brattleboro, Vermont; three grandchildren, Simon McDougall and his companion Eliza of Putney, VT, Bryer McDougall of Brattleboro, VT, and Kilee McDougall and her companion Randy of Keene, New Hampshire; three sisters, Evelyn Brown and her husband Lauren of Millinocket, Catherine King of Bangor, and Ethel McFarland of Thompson Station, Tennessee; a special niece, Delores O’Kane of Millinocket; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Alice O’Kane, and a brother, Harold J. McDougall, Jr. Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Tuesday, November 22 at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Walter may be sent to the Millinocket Regional Hospital, 200 Somerset Street, Millinocket, ME 04462.
