Murray Cassidy

PHOTO Murray B. Cassidy Medway – Murray B. Cassidy, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at a Millinocket health care facility. He was born December 22, 1932 in Hodgdon, Maine, the youngest son of Henry and Lucy (Colton) Cassidy. In 1955, he moved from Houlton, “where the big potatoes lie” as he often said, and went to work for the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket. After 32 years as a papermaker and at the age of 53, he retired to his camp on the East Branch in Grindstone and became known as the “Mayor of Grindstone”. Murray spent the last year of his life with Katahdin Health Care where he was treated like a king and was known as “Old Blue Eyes”. He is survived by his children, Brian Cassidy of Bangor, Helen Loney and her husband Roger of Brookhaven, Georgia, Cheryl Deveau and her husband Joseph of Medway, David Cassidy of Auburn, Patricia Turcotte of East Millinocket, Murray Cassidy and his wife Jacqui of Jay, and Jaime Merrill and his partner Denise Simon of Boston; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Murray was predeceased by his siblings, Madeline Ward, Phillip Cassidy, Patrick Cassidy, Joseph Cassidy, and Viola Duff, and the mother of his six oldest children, Elizabeth Cassidy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Friday, December 23 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the East Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Murray may be sent to the Activities Fund at Katahdin Health Care, 22 Walnut St. Millinocket, ME 04462, or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket.
