Louis Schacherer Obituary

Louis J. Schacherer the son of LeRoy and Elizabeth (Reuland) Schacherer was born March 20, 1937 in Estherville, Iowa. He died on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville at the age of 79.

He received his education in Wallingford and Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1955.

On February 18, 1958 he was united in marriage to Shirley Bonstead in Graettinger. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Emmet County. For hobbies he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, antique tractor rides, gardening, wintering in Texas and most important spending time with his great grandchildren. On August 24, 1995, he was given a second chance at life with a heart transplant.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

Left to cherish Louie memory are his wife, Shirley of Estherville; children, Susan (Tim) Milner of Spirit Lake; Steven (Paula) Schacherer of Wallingford; David (Carol) Schacherer of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; grandchildren, Jason Quastad of Estherville; Erin Milner of Milford; Matt (Abby) Schacherer of Estherville; Mallory (Kurtis) Talbott of Independence, Missouri; Tara (Aaron) Smit of Waukee; Michael Schacherer of Estherville; Jonathan Schacherer of Iowa City; Adam Schacherer of Iowa City; Sarah Schacherer of Wallingford; great grandchildren, Kinley and Blake Schacherer; sisters, Mary Herum of Estherville; Lucille (Lloyd) McCombs of Ruthven; Lorraine (David) Origer of Graettinger; Margaret Hunt of Dolliver; sister-in-law, Carmen Schacherer of Wallingford; family friend, Amy Herum of Estherville and many nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Quastad; sister, Dolores Umscheid; brother, Eugene Schacherer; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Gift Of Life Transplant House in Rochester, MN, St. Patrick's Parish, or Avera Holy Family Hospice.
