Donald Franklin Laidig the son of Ernest and Daisy Elizabeth (Fowler) Laidig was born January 3, 1936 in rural Wallingford, Iowa and departed this life on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 80.

He received his education in Estherville schools. Don enjoyed working at the bakery in his younger years.

On November 14, 1959 he was united in marriage to Irene Bradley in Graettinger. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Don was employed with Estherville Sand & Gravel, City of Estherville and he retired from Estherville Golden Sun. He also farmed with his brother Ronald for many years. For hobbies, he enjoyed camping, playing bingo, attending parades and most important was spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Izaak Walton League and Cushman Club of America.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Donald and his wife Julie Laidig of Ringsted, Iowa and their children, Travis and Zach, Travis and Sommer (Sydney, Reagan), and Tyson and Kimberley (Samantha, Hannah, and Marissa); Dwight Laidig and his fiancé, Michele Robinson of Newton, Iowa and their children, Nicole and her husband Tom Burns (Avalon and Jasper); Jennifer Armstrong (Jordan, Jaiden, Aiden); Kristin and her husband Jason Davidson; Aimee and her husband Darren Peak, Hannah and Paige Robinson; David and wife, Theresa of Madelia, MN, and their children Ashley and her husband Tyler Selden, Adam and special friend, Abby and Bradley; Dennis and his wife Sara Laidig of Terril, Iowa and their children, Kara and her husband Ross Packebush (Chayse, Ava, Brekken and Slade); Jaime and her husband Brandon Murray (Micah, Gavin, and Hazel); Laura and her husband Taylor DePuew (Noah and Wyatt); Brittany and her husband Trevor Olson (Brody, Cooper, Jaxon and Reid); Brandon and his wife Dakota Laidig (Levi); Duane and his wife Sue of Nemaha, Iowa and their son Gregg; Debbie and her husband Bob of Whittemore, Iowa and their children Elisa and her fiancé, Devon and their children (Isaiah and Chloe), Tristy, Kristina and her husband, Miah Jordan (August, Mikah, and Daisy) Patrick and his fiancé, Orian (Lilly Lyric); Marissa, Andreah, Donald, and Bobbie. Sisters, Mary and Bob Severson of Portage, Wisconsin, and Margaret Kinkaide of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Velda Laidig of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, parents Daisy and Ernest Laidig, brother Ronald.
