Thomas Garner Obituary

Thomas Garner, 87, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Adams Woodcrest. He was born in Adams County on November 2, 1929 to the late Thomas and Glee (Krugh) Garner. On August 27, 1951 he married Sunya Robinson. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Decatur Masonic Lodge #571, Shriners International, American Legion Post #43 and the Decatur Lions Club. Thomas was manager of Kocher Lumber, he then opened and managed the first Sherwin Williams Store in Decatur, he worked at Adams Builders then became co-owner of Adams Lumber & Supply, he retired as a buyer from the Schaefer Wholesale Company. He served his country in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sunya of Decatur, IN; 4 sons, Thomas (Cindy) Garner of Decatur, IN; Lynn (Connie) Garner of Ossian, IN; Steven (Traci) Garner of Decatur, IN; Eric (Christine) Garner of Decatur, IN; 2 daughters, Teresa (Doug) Heyne and Lisa (Thomas) Krueckeberg both of Decatur, IN; 1 sister, Marilyn Frey of Decatur, IN; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Myers. Visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at the Zion United Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 with calling there one hour prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Pastor Randy Rossman will be officiating. Burial will take place at the Decatur Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post #43. Memorials may be given to the Zion United Church of Christ.
