Larry Lloyd

Larry A. Lloyd 1946-2016 We celebrate the life of Larry Alan Lloyd, born in Long Beach, California on May 13,1946 to Virginia and Michael Lloyd who blessed him with a wonderful childhood. Larry loved participating in sports from an early age. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School where he was active in student government, serving as class president of his sophomore, junior and senior classes. He attended the University of California, Berkeley and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1968 with a degree in Political Science. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army Reserves. Larry moved to Ketchum, Idaho in 1980 to provide his family with enjoyment of the environment and activities that the area offered. While living in the Wood River Valley, he drew great satisfaction from coaching baseball, especially at Wood River High School with good friend and coach Lars Hovey. Together they developed the softball and baseball programs. Larry was instrumental in the inception and development of the South Valley Sports Complex, home to the Wood River High School softball and soccer teams and Founder’s Field where Wood River’s baseball team and the American Legion summer baseball program practiced and host games. Larry loved tennis and golf; he was an original member of the Valley Club where he was the Men’s Senior Golf Champion in 2007. He also served on the Green Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Valley Club Homeowners Association. From skiing, hiking, fishing with his kids at Redfish, and spending long hours on the links to coaching kids and being involved with the community, Larry deeply appreciated his place among the slopes and meadows and evergreens, and the friends and families of his home town. He is survived by his life companion, Suzy Childs, his children, the “jewels” of his life, Lucas (Sarah), Eli (Farah) and Courtney, three beautiful granddaughters, Joy, Isis and Devyn, his brother Daniel (Allison), his niece, Lindsay (John), and nephew, Gregory. Larry requested no service. The family is establishing the Larry A. Lloyd Baseball Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made to D.L. Evans Bank - Larry A. Lloyd Fund and mailed to P. O. Box 9120, Ketchum, Idaho 83340 or Hospice & Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley, P. O. Box 4320, Ketchum, Idaho 83340.
