Nevia DeGrassi Poletti, 88, wife of Mario Poletti died peacefully on her birthday, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Isola, Italy in 1929, she immigrated with her husband and daughter from Italy in 1956. She was the daughter of the late Mariano and Maria DeGrassi. Nevia took great pride in her hometown of Isola and was excited to take her family to visit in the summer of 2008. Nevia worked as a seamstress all of her life, sewing for family, friends and local establishments into her 80’s. She had a passion for cooking and she was a remarkable baker. Nevia loved gardening and the beach, but most of all her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Marisa Grodzicki and her husband Anthony of Meriden; three grandchildren, Stephen Grodzicki and his wife Denise of Durham, Angela Dorris of Accord, NY and Daniel Grodzicki of Meriden; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Grodzicki; her brother Bruno DeGrassi of Italy; her nephew, Simone DeGrassi and his wife Sylvia of Italy; her aunt and uncle, Ermenia and Francesco DeGrassi of Chicago and her cousin Aldo Pugliese of Buffalo, NY. She was predeceased by her three sisters and her brother. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 12 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Burial will take place at a later date in Isola, Italy. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service.
