Gertrude (Pekoske) Kosienski, 96, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Westfield Care & Rehab. She was the widow of Stanley T. Kosienski. Gertrude was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Affeldt) Pekoske. Gertrude graduated from Meriden High School and made her home in Meriden and Florida. Gertrude worked at Fosdick and at Stop & Shop in Meriden prior to residing at Westfield Care & Rehab. At 86, she was the manager of the salad bar at Stop & Shop where she received many awards for a job well done. She loved traveling to New York and to the shoreline for seafood. She leaves a daughter, Joan K. Cyr of Middletown; two sons, Gregory Kosienski and Cheryl Broderick of Southington and Bruce Kosienski of Florida; grandchildren, Kevin Cyr of Cromwell, Neil Cyr and Tracy of Middletown, Scott Kosienski and Audrey of Maplewood, NJ, Jodi Kosienski of Meriden and Darin Kosienski of Florida; eleven great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Robert Kosienski. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceasing Gertrude was her brother John Pekoske and her grandson, Lance Kosienski. The funeral will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westfield Care & Rehab for the excellent care and compassion shown to “Trudie” or “Gertie” as she was known by the staff and where she made her home for the past several years.
