Ida Mae Tipton, age 89, 608 Adams Street, Erwin, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Homer York Briggs, Sr. and Flora Mae Proffitt Briggs. Mrs. Tipton was a former employee of Southern Pottery & Cash Pottery where she worked as a hand painter. She was a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Sim Tipton; her second husband, Hubert Tipton; one brother, Homer York Briggs, Jr.; three sisters: Vivian Harmon, Sarah Jane McCurry and Betty Timberlake. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, one brother, Doyle Briggs and wife, Norma Ruth of Flag Pond. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 in the Evergreen Cemetery.
