It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing on January 6, 2017 of our beloved mother and family matriarch, Ethel Ann Farmer (nee Walsh) in her 97th year. Ethel’s beautiful smile and effervescence illuminated our lives and now brighten the heavens above.

The cherished wife of the late Thomas H. Farmer, Ethel was the loving mother of son Bob (Patricia) and daughter Aynne and a devoted grandmother to Alexander and Brandon. A dear sister-in-law of Fabiola Walsh, she was also a much-loved aunt of many nieces and nephews, and will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends.

Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on July 13, 1920, Ethel was very proud of her Maritime roots and wholeheartedly embraced her “down East” heritage. The eldest of ten children, Ethel was the daughter of the late Arthur J. Walsh and Lillian Ann McLean. She was predeceased by all of her siblings.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville, on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 2 - 4 and from 6 - 8 pm. Members of the C.W.L. will gather for the recitation of the Rosary on Thursday at 3 pm. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Interment will immediately follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, charitable donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
